When our clients plan out new patios for their living spaces, we always recommend that they consider the following factors before choosing where to put their patio:
- Privacy and spacing—If you want your patio to be more of a private area, it may be a good idea to put it further into the backyard. But if you want to create a place where your neighbors can gather as they’re out and about, putting in a front yard patio can be a good option. You should also consider how much space you have before selecting the site for your new patio.
- Shading—Consider any natural shading elements in the landscape when you consider where to put your patio. If your backyard gets a lot of sun, for example, you may want to install your patio near a large tree to get some shade.
- Intended use—Some people use their patios for relaxing and cooking, while others use them primarily for entertaining. Think about how you plan to use your patio before you do anything else. This will determine not only where you put your patio, but also the size of patio you should install.
